PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE @ ST. THOMAS’ CHURCH, WEEK  OF 16 SEPTEMBER 2012

God has given us  our tongues to communicate His truth, to praise Him and to bless our neighbours  with. He has also told us to ask and we will receive. Let us now join together  as God’s people and make the desires of our hearts known to Him as we pray  together saying: Lord, set our hearts on fire, and not our tongues.

Lord, set our  hearts on fire, and not our tongues.

Let us pray (Silence)

Lord Jesus Christ,  we believe You are the Messiah of God. Help us to act like we believe it. Bridle  our tongues and direct our lives so that we may consistently speak and live as  Your followers and as the children of God, we pray:

Lord, set our  hearts on fire, and not our tongues

For ourselves, that  we may not be ashamed to speak and act as Your friends in this life; for our  parishioners as we think about who we will invite to Back to Church Sunday in  two weeks’ time, and for all churches involved in Back To Church Sunday around  the world, that Christians may begin to step out without fear, trusting in the  love of God for all people to draw them to Himself, we pray to You  Lord:

Lord, set our  hearts on fire, and not our tongues.

For peace among  nations and especially for an easing of tensions in the Middle East and North  Africa; for victims of violence, the exploited and the most vulnerable in our  society, and for hearts and ears to hear their cries; for consistency and  integrity for our political leaders; for godliness and humility for our  religious leaders; for wisdom and discernment for our Vestry and parish leaders;  for a life directed by honesty and a clear conscience for all our people, we  pray to You Lord:

Lord, set our  hearts on fire, and not our tongues.

For all teachers  and students as they begin a new academic term; for Shawn, Lesley-Anne, Debbie,  Karen, Bill, and Rick as they lead new ministries in our parish; for Cyril and  Maureen Hamilton, married on Friday; for Donna; for Tom and family as they move  forward into a new day; for Maholdi, Kevin, Lucan and Cora in mourning; for  Judy, Anne, Eleanor, and Jim in hospital; for Miriam as she travels, and for  ourselves that we may stand with our neighbours and not just profess our love,  we pray to You Lord:

Lord, set our  hearts on fire, and not our tongues.

Heavenly Father,  You know our hearts before we open our mouths, yet You tell us to pray and put  into words what we desire. Grant to us everything we ask which is according to  Your will, for You alone are true and just and holy, and we praise You with Your  Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, now and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
