PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE               BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY (St. Michael & All Angels)                     30 SEPTEMBER 2012

Every Sunday is welcome back to the Church Sunday. Every Sunday we are invited to return and gather with the Body of Christ and renew our membership in God’s family. So as God’s family members, let us make our prayer to God through the one He sent to bring us home, as we say: Lord, may we overcome by the blood of the Lamb.

Lord, may we overcome by the blood of the Lamb.

Let us pray (Silence). Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You for welcoming us back into the Father’s presence once again today. Thank You for welcoming us to Your table and for inviting us as special guests. Thank You that there is always a place at Your table for all who return home to the Father’s love through You. Help us to remember that truth when we get distracted in life and when we forget Your unending love for us. Help us to live welcoming lives, so that others may be drawn to You because they see You living in us, we pray:

Lord, may we overcome by the blood of the Lamb.

Lord we pray for the peace of the world: may the good news of your victory over the rebellious power of evil spread deep into our lives and into all the corners of the earth, so that we may live together in justice and faith until Jesus returns in glory, we pray:

Lord, may we overcome by the blood of the Lamb.

We pray for our country, for Fred our Primate, Cyrus our Bishop, for all pastors and leaders of church throughout our province: for Elizabeth our Queen, Stephen our Prime Minister, Cathy our Premier and for all in authority; Rule their hearts and help them to lead Your people according to Your holy will, we pray:

Lord, may we overcome by the blood of the Lamb.

Lord Jesus, You said that the angels of the little ones look on our Father’s face in heaven; look upon our children and young people. Guide their growth and development Lord, so that they mature into the beautiful children You made them to be, radiating the glory of Your Son Jesus. Bless and direct the work of our Sunday School, Youth Group and Confirmation instruction in this parish and pour out Your Spirit on all who seek to grow in Your perfect will for their lives, we pray:

Lord, may we overcome by the blood of the Lamb.

We pray for the casualties of the spiritual warfare about us: for all who are confined to exile, prison, harsh treatment, or hard labour, for the sake of truth. In particular we pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world suffering persecution for their faith in Jesus, and for those who stay away from church because of fear, guilt or misunderstanding of Your heart for them. Send Your angels to protect, strengthen and draw us all home to You. Keep us steadfast and deliver us from evil, we pray:

Lord, may we overcome by the blood of the Lamb.

With thanks for the ministry of St. Michael and all the angels, we remember the prophets, apostles, martyrs, and all who have borne witness to the Gospel in their day. Direct our lives O Lord by Your same Spirit, so that we too may be living witnesses to Your victory, we pray:

Lord, may we overcome by the blood of the Lamb.

Lord, thank You for our common life in faith in this parish. Increase our desire and ability to be rich in good works, and generous and ready to share, so that we may take hold of the life that really is life and give it freely and cheerfully to others. To You be all honour and glory, majesty and praise, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God, now and to unending ages. Amen.
